Erosion control

The unique nature of each slope demands a slightly different approach to erosion control techniques. Cut slopes are more prone to surface erosion while fill slopes are prone to subsurface problems from incomplete compaction prior to construction. B&T has the experience to help you deliver on a soil erosion solution that works best and may combine a retaining wall in addition to hillside vegetation.

Using plants to control erosion

Everyone knows that plants are natural protectors of soil. Foliage prevents rain drops from falling directly into soil particles, forcing the rain to filter down to the soil surface more gently. Beneath the surface, plant roots work at binding the soils between the tendrils of the roots. Plants that exhibit fine root systems work best at providing slope stabilization.

Our landscapers may recommend either groundcover plants to prevent surface erosion or creeping shrubs to prevent surface and subsurface erosion. Depending on which planting strategy is chosen, the appropriate watering / irrigation solution will be needed in support.

Other soil erosion management solutions

Not sure which erosion control solution is right for you? Let B&T cover all the options available to you, from retaining walls to straw blankets we have the expertise to manage your soil erosion problems effectively.

Here’s just a few solution we specialize in:

Gravity Retaining Walls: uses sheer weight and mass to hold the soil at bay — bricks, pavers, and unmortared stone are just a few options available, and dry-stacked stone is a very popular choice.

Straw Blankets: straw blankets, often called erosion control blankets, are thick, fibrous sheets made out of natural materials, synthetic materials, or a combination of both.
